One of the things we love about New York Fashion Week is seeing where designers derive their inspiration and how it translates into their collections. Each designer hones in on some aspect that drives them to express themselves to create pieces from various points of view. While some stick to traditional albeit mainstream looks others take on a more edgy approach. It’s this latter philosophy that stylist Edison Lu has adopted for his debut menswear line, To Be Thrill.
Edison Lu’s fashion brand, “To Be Thrill” is a take on sophisticated black garments with an edge designed to be unique and red carpet celebrity worthy. The androgynous looks may be considered too edgy or avant garde by mainstream Washington standards but there were a few take away pieces that could be seen on the streets of DC.
First was, a collarless bottom black bomber jacket with Asian print detail would make a great statement piece. While the To Be Thrill shirting with see through cutouts would be appropriate for DC late night club and dance scene. We also liked the black double-breasted slim suit with crystal accents. Again a bit much by Washington standards but definitely appropriate fitting for a celebrity awards show. Also worth mentioning were Lu’s take on the little black dress for women. Great for women who want to take the LBD to the next level.
