Auchentoshan Classic review

Auchentoshan (AW-ken-tow-shun) Classic is an excellent Scotch whisky for those just starting out in the game. It’s very light, floral, and doesn’t have the smokiness or peatiness of many whiskies that scare off the masses.

It’s a light enough whisky to cook with or to mix drinks with.

From the Auchentoshan web site:

Triple distilled and matured solely in American bourbon casks. The result: a Lowland Single Malt Whisky with the sweet aromas of vanilla and coconut – along with the signature smooth, delicate, Auchentoshan taste.

It’s light and basic enough to cook with or to mix cocktails with. It hasn’t been aged for very long in barrels so that explains its light golden color and lighter taste. If you’ve ever tried a non-aged whisky, this is the next step up. And like non-aged whisky, it almost has the taste of aquavit. It’s probably too light for an experienced whisky drinker but it’s perfect for newbies!

To The Eye

Pale gold.

To The Nose

Rich vanilla and coconut, with a hint of green apple and a tang of citrus zest.

To The Tongue

Sweet vanilla cream, fresh green apple skin and a little mint.

To The End

A fresh, floral zestiness.
