Bluejacket Brewery Coming Soon

In the last few years, we’ve FINALLY had some microbreweries start up here in the District, and they’re turning out some really good beer!  There’s D.C. Brau, 3 Stars, Chocolate City, and others.  After over a year of anticipation, now one more is getting set to open up this Spring: Bluejacket.  Great things are expected from this brewery which is brought to us by the same group behind some of the best beer bars in the DC area such as ChurchKey, Birch & Barley, and Rustico.

Bluejacket is going into the Boilermaker building among other new restaurants and businesses at Navy Yard in SE, led by head brewer Megan Parisi and beer director Greg Engert.  It’s designed with a restaurant and bar on the ground level, and brewing operations above.  Most microbreweries start up as low profile operations in small warehouses or even at home, but this one is unique, going into a huge, newly renovated facility with top of the line, custom equipment to produce a wide variety of beer, still in small craft brewed batches.  They plan to serve their own beers, drafts from other breweries, and bottles on a rotating menu (so you’ll have to hit them up often to try what’s new).  Bluejacket has built up our expectations over the past year by creating some excellent collaboration beers with other breweries, including the first signature Bluejacket beer Sidewalk Saison, which was brewed at Iron Hill in Westchester, PA (but not a collaboration) and got promising reviews on BeerAdvocate.

Follow them on Facebook or Twitter for info on Bluejacket’s current beers and their opening.
