Window pane pattern

The window pane is certainly having its moment right now. It’s been a hot trend in 2012 and continues to carry over its momentum into 2013. It’s pretty obvious to see why it’s called what it is, given the large size of the squares that are created by the checked pattern.

Now, window panes aren’t just for suits. They can be for shirts too, and (although this requires some cajones) pants as well. In general try not to mix too many patterns with window panes. The pattern itself is eye-catching and bold enough that trying to do too many patterns around it may make the entire outfit look too schizophrenic. And in terms of colors, try to play off of the color of the lines (like they did in the image above).
