A question about sport jackets that I received today

Question:

“Sometimes i see dudes with blazer vents and they are attached. That’s not a style is it? It looks weird to me” – concerned female bystander

Answer:

No my dear, this is not a thing. It’s a lack of understanding on what’s normal and what’s annoyingly becoming more common. Vents on blazer (whether a center vent or two side vents) exist to allow for the jacket to conform better to your natural curves (and expansion and contraction thereof). Now how’s it gonna do that if the vent corners are tied together? They’re tied together in the first place so that the vents don’t go through much wear and tear and develop creases as they’re tried on in off-the-rack settings (like your local department store). You’re expected to take the thread out once you get home (preferably with a seam-ripper, but lacking that with scissors very carefully!).

So yes, it should rightfully look weird to you. Brownie points for you!

Question:

And about pockets on sport jackets “I see them sewn shut so often that i thought it was becoming a thing like when people stopped curling their baseball hat rims”

Answer:

Same concept… The department stores don’t want your grubby hands all up in the pockets so they’re sewn shut. Buy an el-cheapo seam-ripper and open up those pockets to put fun stuff in (pocket squares, monocles, etc).
