Men of DC have a new shopping destination with the addition of the J Crew Men’s Shop, which opened earlier this month along 14th Street NW. The well-appointed two-story store is an inviting location catering exclusively to menswear in one of the most popular neighborshoods in Northwest Washington.
To celebrate the opening, Head Men’s Designer for J Crew, Frank Muytjens hosted a VIP event to showcase this new jewel in the company’s crown. The private event featured cocktails, whisky and snacks by Quarter + Glory as well as hand embossing of leather goods by Billykirk with founders Kirk and Chris Bray.
“It’s always very important to us to fit in with the neighborhood, and be respectful of our neighbors. When we found this location it felt right and it felt like we fit right in. We love the energy and vibe on 14th street,” said Muytjens.
And fit right into the neighborhood it does. J Crew has turned an old rundown building with a dubious past into one of the newest shopping hotspots along the 14th Street corridor. The store joins the ranks of Filson, Shinola and Federal that have already made a home in this thriving community. J Crew has come along way since its humble beginnings as a catalog company.
The new men store features the full breadth of the J Crew men’s line carrying items that may be harder to find at the traditional J Crew stores. An added bonus is that men shopping here do not have to feel like second-class citizens trudging through the women’s sections first to finally get to men’s area. Here the guys are king and this idea has really taken hold since J Crew opened its Tribeca store in an old liquor store.
“Whenever I visit DC I feel like I have to dress up a little more. To me DC represents an elegant buttoned up aesthetic — but still rooted in a casual, down to earth sensibility,” said Muytjens.
One of the highlights of the new store is the expanded suiting area. It is here that you will find a great selection of the J Crew’s Ludlow and Crosby suit lines with everything you need to create that complete perfect look. There’s even a terrific formal section featuring the latest in traditional and modern looks.
