Hey, DC: It's a weekend to support women

Weekend Round-Up: January 21 and 22

columbia-room
We encourage all of D.C.’s men (and women) to consider a visit to the twice James Beard Award nominated Columbia Room this weekend.  It is welcoming eight of the country’s top female bartenders to jump behind the Tasting Room bar on Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21 for four special two-hour seatings.

Eight incredibly talented bartenders will be on-hand to make a unique selection of original cocktails that speak to them and their personal stories, with a portion of the proceeds from the female-centric takeover going to Planned Parenthood. The exclusive two-day event will have four seatings: 5:30 to 7:30pm and 7:30 to 9:30pm slots available each evening. The special takeover cocktails-and-snacks pairing menu will be priced like Columbia Room’s regular tasting menu: the three-course option is $79 plus tax and the five-course option is $108 plus tax. Both are inclusive of gratuity.

Columbia Room’s new Women Rule winter menu, available through March, features a tasting menu inspired by female bartenders and chefs from around the world and throughout history, such as Alice Waters, Ada Coleman, Elena Arzak and more.

“In ‘Roe,’ playwright Lisa Loomer aims to show both sides of abortion case” – The Washington Post

Following an acclaimed run at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Lisa Loomer’s world-premiere production Roe has debuted in D.C. at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater.

Directed by Bill Rauch, the drama focuses on the two women at the heart of the landmark Roe v. Wade case – plaintiff Norma McCorvey and her attorney Sarah Weddington – and documents their shockingly divergent journeys following the case, that would come to mirror the polarization in American culture. Roe is a co-production with Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Berkeley Repertory Theatre and runs through Feb. 19.
