Can you escape the room

Are you and your buddies looking for a great way to spend some bonding time together? Have you ever wanted to test your inner Houdini? Then the Insomnia Escape Room DC is a great way to get together and see if you can overcome the challenge.

For the uninitiated, an “Escape the Room” adventure is where a team (usually 2-7 people) is faced with the task of figuring out how to get of a locked room. The group is given a scenario and they must work to figure out the clues and puzzles within the room to unlock the door. To make it even more challenging, there is also a time limit under which they must accomplish the task.

Insomnia Escape the Room DC is located in an unassuming building in the Glover Park section of the city. Walking into the company’s lobby, you would never guess that behind the closed doors are 3 different Escape the Room adventures to test your mettle. The Mafia room transports you to a time where gangsters, prohibition and clandestine speakeasies ruled the day. The Alchemist room or library has you examining secret manuscripts. While the Oblivion room is filled with virtual reality puzzles, a first on the East Coast. Each room has a 60-minute time limit.

Men’s Life DC was up for the challenge and decided to try out the Mafia room. After a quick set up we were locked in what look like a 30’s bar that was disrupted by a poker game gone bad. We were told that if we needed additional clues, the staff, which monitors the game play, could help us out. Naturally we were not going to ask for any additional help and were determined to escape the room within the 60-minute time limit.

The result? Once we got the hang of the game we got to the task of solving the puzzles. Some were simple while others were a bit tricky. So how did we do? Great minds worked together and easily got out of the room within the time limit. The verdict? It’s a fun and unique activity if you’re looking for something different to do. While you would only do a room one time, there are still two others for Men’s Life to conquer. Next time due to our competitive nature our goal would be to Escape the Room in the fastest time.

Insomnia Escape the Room DC is located at 2300 Wisconsin Ave NW, unit 200B (second floor), Washington DC, 20007. For more information visit the company’s website.
