During Men’s Fashion Week last February, attendees were delighted with the concise yet satisfying presentation from Matiere. Fortunately for this latest New York Fashion Week Men’s, guests were treated to a full runway show for Matiere S/S 2018.
Matiere founders Henry Choi and Scot Shandalove approach their sleek modern aesthetic with an understated yet refined point of view. The Matiere S/S 2018 collection was entitled, “Refection,” as Choi and Shandalove have been reflecting on their brand.
The idea was to create stylish and function garments with an eye toward merging eco-friendly fabrics with high tech materials. It’s as if the team was reflecting on their place in the fashion industry sustainability and relevance.
The Matiere S/S 2018 collection featured hues reminiscent of the desert at sunset. Neutral tones, with soft blues and dusty rose were shown down the runway as opposed to presentation style in seasons past. Here we saw pants legs shorter, almost more of a cropped pant while short lengths were longer. Using lux fabrics and layering, Matiere presented a stylish wearable collection with a clear understanding of the changing nature of the climate and the elements.
