It seems that the months seem to go by so quickly. However that’s not such a bad thing if you’re popping into the Morris American Bar (1020 7th Street NW). The new cocktail bar changes up its cocktail menu on a monthly basis. And it’s now time for a change,
Morris American Bar, which opened earlier this year, is the first concept exclusively from master cocktail craftsman David Strauss (Sheppard, Barmini/Minibar, Le Diplomate). “We want to celebrate the best part of our drinking culture, reminiscent of a time when 5 o’clock was always cocktail hour and Friday night meant putting on your best clothes and going out for music, dancing, and drinking,” says Strauss.
The cocktail menu offers cocktails that exclusively utilize the freshest ingredients of the moment. No drink is complete without perfected made-in-house ice, where every piece is cut painstakingly by hand. “As ice is the common ingredient in every drink we will prepare, there is simply no point in using fresh juices and quality spirits, only to finish a drink with machine ice, which is generally full of metals, plastics, rubber, and impurities that can alter the taste,” says Strauss
For March, 10 cocktails hit the list to whet your whistle. A drink not to be missed is the Tstrumble made with blanco tequila, lemon and strawberry. For a lighter cocktail opt for Champagne Julep, simply champagne, fresh mint and crushed ice. We also couldn’t pass up David Strauss’ Atlantic City made with apple brandy; Amaro Abano, an alcoholic bitter and Amaretto . All priced at $12 dollars and despite the selection if something does not catch your fancy, you can always ask for the bartender’s choice,
Morris American Bar serves Monday through Thursday from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and Friday through Saturday from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Morris does not accept reservations and seats guests on a first-come-first-serve basis.
