We are just a few days away from celebrating America’s 243rd birthday. And to determine the best places to celebrate the most star-spangled occasion, the online credit reporting and personal finance website, WalletHub, recently released a comparison of the country’s 100 largest cities based on how well they balance holiday cost and fun.

WalletHub’s data set of 19 key metrics ranges from average beer and wine prices to duration of fireworks shows to Fourth of July weather forecast.  The analysis found Washington, DC ranked 9th, balanced by high marks for the legality of fireworks and many activities and low marks for lack of affordable three-star hotel rooms and typical poor weather. Here are some of the key findings for DC:

  • 10th – Fourth of July Celebrations
  • 51st – Affordability
  • 6th – Attractions & Activities
  • 11th – Safety & Accessibility
  • 82nd – Fourth of July Weather

Taking the top three spots in WalletHub’s ratings were New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The bottom slot went to San Bernardino, California.

In addition to its city ratings, WalletHub also released a series of 4th of July facts and figures:
