7 places to celebrate National Tequila Day in the DC area

If you know that yesterday was National Vanilla Ice Cream Day and that tomorrow is National Hot Fudge Sundae Day you also likely know that today is National Tequila Day. Or maybe you are just a fan of ice cream. Regardless. today really is the official day to celebrate the national liquor of Mexico. And to help you fully enjoy this special occasion, here are seven places that have the tequila at the ready.

El Centro, D. F. on 14th Street and El Centro D.F. in Georgetown are hosting their 2nd annual National Tequila Day Beach Party. There are bubble machines, kiddie pools, sugar skulls, water guns, and lots of other fun surprises.  Of course there are also drink specials throughout the day as well as $2 tacos.

Mission Dupont and its newly opened sister restaurant Mission Navy Yard (which has a whooping 10,000-square-feet of space with four bar areas including one that is 150-feet in length) are offering half-price tequila shots — with 40 different types to choose from. In addition, Mission Dupont is having its regular “tacos and tequila Tuesday,” which means you get a free shot of El Jimador tequila when you order a Mission taco platter.

As part of a month long celebration of tequila, MXDC Cocina Mexicana, the modern Mexican restaurant by Celebrity Chef Todd English, is encouraging you to stop by today to sample one or more of its 100+ tequilas, which can be enjoyed neat or incorporated into a house-made margarita or paloma. You then need to upload a photo of yourself enjoying your drink to Instagram drink with the hashtag #MXDCRoyalty.  Crowns and tiaras will be on scattered throughout the bar for your to incorporate into your picture. Once posted, you will want to encourage all your friend to like it because at the end of the month, the one man and one women with the most likes will be crowned king and queen of MXDC and receive a complimentary $300 Barrel Select Patrón Reposado Tequila dinner with tableside bottle service, to be savored at a later date in the restaurant.  Complete details are available here.  Also, don’t forget to check out MXDC’s happy hour menu.

Silver Spring’s Buena Vida and Tacos, Tortas & Tequila (TTT) are celebrating National Tequila Day with an all-day happy hour today from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. At TTT, the first-floor authentic meets modern Mexican diner, guests can enjoy a selection of beverages available at a discounted price of $5 each including the TTT Margarita with blanco tequila, agave, and lime; house red, white, or sparkling wine; as well as a wide selection of draft, can, or bottled beer.

On the second-floor, Buena Vida also has an all-day happy hour menu featuring $5 small plates such as Shishitos Toreados with macha, cotija, crispy shallot, and sal de chapulin; and nachos with organic homemade chips, pork al pastor, grilled chicken, or steak with poblano cheese sauce, black bean purée, and pickled veggies. For the perfect pairing, Buena Vida also has $5 specialty cocktails including the Buena Vida Margarita with reposado tequila, agave, lime, mandarin, and salt air; and white sangria with sauvignon blanc, cantaloupe, mango, grapes, and peach liqueur.
