On the heels of the national fried chicken sandwich craze fueled by Popeye’s and Chick-fil-A, Service Bar in Shaw has launched a new local fried chicken sandwich culinary series called FRIED. It features a local chef and their fried chicken sandwich on a rotating schedule for the next six months.
“With the ongoing buzz surrounding Popeye’s and Chick-fil-A’s fried chicken sandwiches, we thought it would be fun to organize a creative community-centric fried chicken sandwich series at Service Bar featuring some of our favorite chefs in the DC area and giving fried chicken sandwich lovers access to many of the popular sandwiches only available in Virginia, Maryland, and other parts of the District”, said Chad Spangler, co-owner of Service Bar. “There are so many talented chefs here that are doing unbelievable things with fried chicken sandwiches so we’re excited to be able to showcase them along with our drinks.”
Chef Kevin Tien of Hot Lola’s and Emilie’s is kicking off FRIED with his highly praised Sichuan + Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. Featuring a juicy and flavorful fried chicken thigh, slaw, pickles, and comeback sauce on a sesame seed bun, Tien’s sandwich is available at Service Bar now through January 18, 2020.
“I’m really excited to be working with Chad Spangler and Glendon Hartley at Service Bar on this community-focused culinary collaboration”, said Tien. “When I first moved to the DC area eight years ago, I had the opportunity to work with them and they truly showed me what DC hospitality is all about. I feel that their ‘FRIED’ culinary series is going to be such an exciting way to showcase talented local chefs, their creative twists on fried chicken sandwiches, and Service Bar’s phenomenal beverage program.”
Additional chefs and their sandwiches will be announced in the coming weeks including celebrated Executive Chef Johanna Hellrigl of soon-to-open Mercy Me, amongst others.
Reservations are not required and the featured fried chicken sandwiches will be offered each night on a limited first-come, first-served basis. A portion of proceeds from the sales of all fried chicken sandwiches will be donated to each featured chefs local charity of choice. Tien has selected Human Rights Campaign as his charity of choice.
