Virginia Beach named top 2020 New Year’s destination

The New Year’s holiday is usually an occasion for big crowds of people to gather and ring in the new year together. This year, celebrations are likely to be much more subdued and socially-distanced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For those reasons, WalletHub, a popular personal finance website, ranked Virginia Beach as its top destination among the 100 biggest cities in the U.S. for celebrating the arrival of 2021.

Located on the southeastern coast of Virginia and approximately 200 miles from Washington, DC, Virginia Beach has long served as a popular resort city and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world.

WalletHub developed its ranking of Best Cities for New Year’s based on 15 key indicators , including safety, COVID-19 cases, quality food delivery options and costs. In addition to Virginia Beach, the other nearby cities that ranked among the top 20 are Chesapeake, Va.; Norfolk, Va.; and Pittsburgh, Pa.
