It’s National Pizza Day, and a newly released ranking by LawnStarter places the nation’s capital among the top 10 cities in the U.S. for pizza lovers.
Compared to the 200 biggest U.S. cities, DC ranked number eight based on multiple factors, including the number of highly rated pizza vendors and the affordability of pizza in the city. Taking the top three spots were New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago.
This is not the first time DC’s pizza scene has been recognized. In 2017, Bon Appetit included Timber Pizza on its 50 Best New Restaurants List for that year. And Andy’s Pizza won in the 2021 International Pizza Challenge’s Traditional division for its classic cheese pizza.
Many top chefs also seem to agree that DC is a good market for pizza. Michelin-starred chef Chris Morgan and “Pizza Czar” Anthony Falco recently partnered with Crooked Run Fermentation brewery to open a Pizza Serata location in the Union Market District, and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has announced that he will soon be opening his first U.S. branch of Street Pizza in Penn Quarter.
