DC’s Service Bar and Allegory finalists for 2024 Spirited Awards

DC has long been a vibrant hub for exceptional cocktail experiences. And that is even more evident now with two standout bars from the nation’s capital, Service Bar and Allegory, once again named finalists for the prestigious Spirited Awards. These nominations shine yet another spotlight on the innovative mixology and unique atmospheres both establishments bring to the city’s dynamic bar scene.

The Spirited Awards, presented annually by Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, celebrate the best and brightest in the global cocktail community. Categories include awards for best bar, bartender, brand ambassador, and more. Being nominated for these awards is a significant honor, recognizing the hard work, creativity, and dedication of those who contribute to the vibrant world of cocktails. The winners of the 2024 Spirited Awards will be announced next month at the Tales of the Cocktail annual trade conference in New Orleans.

Service Bar DC

Located in the bustling U Street Corridor, Service Bar has become a beloved fixture in DC’s cocktail culture since its inception. Co-founded by industry veterans Chad Spangler and Glendon Hartley, this neighborhood bar focuses on delivering high-quality cocktails in a relaxed, unpretentious setting. The bar’s philosophy centers on providing excellent service and creating memorable experiences for every guest who walks through the door.

Service Bar is among four 2024 Spirited Awards Best U.S. Bar Team finalists. In 2023, it was a finalist for Best U.S. Cocktail Bar. In addition to its Spirited Awards nomination, Service Bar is a James Beard Foundation semifinalist nominee for Oustanding Bar for 2024 and was ranked #22 in North America’s 50 Best Bars for 2024.

Service Bar mixologist Christine Kim is also nominated for a 2024 Spirited Award. She is one of four finalists for U.S. Bartender of the Year.

Hidden within the Eaton DC hotel, Allegory is a speakeasy that offers a cocktail experience that is as visually stunning as it is delicious. Conceptualized by beverage director Paul Gonzalez, Allegory combines the art of mixology with a captivating narrative inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Walking into Allegory feels like stepping into a storybook, with eclectic decor and artwork that transport guests to a whimsical, otherworldly realm.

Allegory’s 2024 Spirited Award nomination is for Best Hotel Bar, a repeat of its 2023 nomination. Its Spirited Awards add to its growing list of recent achievements. Food & Wine named it the 4th Best Cocktail Bar in the United States for 2024, and it also earned a spot on the list of World’s 50 Best Bars for 2024, coming in at #23.
