Popular men’s grooming lounge Hammer & Nails opens in Bethesda

A national men’s grooming brand known for pairing barbering and nail care with a relaxed, upscale atmosphere is bringing its first Maryland location to downtown Bethesda.

The newest Hammer & Nails is now open at 7712 Woodmont Ave. The shop offers a full menu of grooming services — haircuts, straight-razor shaves, beard and mustache grooming, skincare treatments, waxing, and manicures and pedicures — geared specifically toward men.

The opening marks the brand’s continued growth in the greater Washington, D.C., area. It also brings a new option to local men looking to combine self-care services under one roof.

Founded in 2013 in West Hollywood, California, Hammer & Nails set out to challenge the idea that nail and grooming services were meant only for women. The company built its identity around a “man-cave” experience, outfitting shops with oversized leather chairs, big-screen TVs, noise-canceling headphones and complimentary drinks. Its signature offering is a whiskey-infused pedicure.

The brand added full barbering services in 2018. Today it operates more than 70 locations nationwide, part of a men’s grooming market valued at $21 billion.

The Bethesda shop is owned by husband-and-wife team Bradley and Melissa Blanken.

“We’re thrilled to bring Hammer & Nails to Bethesda and give the men in this community a place that’s truly their own — somewhere they can get a great haircut, take care of themselves, and unwind, all in one visit,” Melissa Blanken said.

Bradley Blanken said the location suited the brand’s goals.

“Bethesda felt like the perfect fit for us — it’s a community that values quality and takes care of itself, and we wanted to build a space here that men could really make part of their routine, not just a once-in-a-while treat,” he said. “Whether someone’s coming in for a haircut before a big meeting or a full self-care afternoon, we want every guest to walk out feeling like a new man.”

The Bethesda location follows Hammer & Nails’ membership model, with Classic, Signature, and Luxe tiers offering recurring services at member pricing. Services are also available à la carte.

The shop is currently signing up its first 150 Founding Members, who receive discounted lifetime pricing and complimentary services.
