United adds nonstop flights to Jackson Hole, Vail, cementing Dulles as the DMV’s ski hub

DMV-area skiers and snowboarders have a clearer path to fresh powder this winter. United Airlines is launching new nonstop service from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to two of the most sought-after mountain destinations in the West: Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Vail, Colorado.

The new routes, beginning December 20 and scheduled to run through April 4, offer local travelers the only direct link to the legendary slopes of the Teton Range and the vast terrain of Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek. They also significantly reduce travel time and eliminate the hassle of connections, a welcome change for those looking to maximize their time on the slopes.

For years, reaching Jackson Hole or Vail from the DMV meant a layover, often in Denver or Chicago, which could potentially turn a long travel day into an even longer one due to frequent weather delays. With ski and snowboard gear in tow, the convenience of a single flight cannot be overstated.

The new flights to Jackson Hole and Vail join United’s already robust lineup of nonstop flights from Dulles to top ski destinations, with year-round service to Denver, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, UTAH, and seasonal nonstop flights to Bozeman, Montana, for access to Big Sky, and Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

The appeal of these new destinations is clear. Jackson Hole is renowned for its challenging terrain, including the iconic Corbet’s Couloir, and its stunning natural beauty, which borders Grand Teton National Park. It offers a rugged, authentic Western experience that attracts serious skiers from around the globe.

Vail, accessed via Eagle County Regional Airport, is synonymous with luxury and immensity. With more than 5,300 acres of skiable terrain, its legendary Back Bowls and perfectly groomed runs cater to every skill level, from families on their first ski vacation to experts seeking endless glades.

By adding these top ski destinations to its nonstop network, United is effectively making Dulles the primary launchpad for East Coast skiers and snowboarders. The expansion not only simplifies logistics but also opens up new possibilities for quick mountain getaways. As the 2025–2026 season approaches, local travelers can spend less time navigating airports and more time carving turns in some of the best snow in the country.
